The Delhi AIIMS administration ordered an investigation on Monday after a Twitter post alleging the premier hospital of serving meal with cockroach caught the attention of the internet.

According to details posted by the Twitter user, a cockroach was found in ‘daal’ served to a four-year-old.

“Pathetic and frightening state of affairs at the most prestigious Medical facility in National Capital- Serving “Cockroach Daal “to a four-year-old as first meal post major stomach surgery @aiims_newdelhi Shocked beyond belief,” the user Sahil Zaidi said in a tweet.

Following the tweet, official sources said, “Hospital authorities have taken a serious note of the incident and are investigating the matter.”

Was patient’s first meal after surgery

The patient’s mother has now said that it was the first meal her son was having after he went through a rare intestinal surgery.

“This was my son’s third surgery. When I saw [the cockroach], I raised the grievance with the doctors and the staff available after which the dietary department apologised several times,” she told Indian express.

The mother stated that she has the utmost respect for the doctors and staff at the Institute as they were responsible for her son’s recovery. However, she said that the food quality there requires a drastic change.

“After I saw the food, I ordered from a cloud kitchen which was way better than the AIIMS food. While I can afford to buy it from outside, what about those who cannot?” she added.
