Annual arrival of birds in India in November
Every year thousands of Siberian birds arrive at Sangam and nearby wetlands in Uttar Pradesh in November. Not only these birds add to the beauty of ghats, but also become the centre of attraction for tourists.
Birds’ escape from harsh winters
Marking the onset of winter, various species of birds fly from Siberia to wetlands in India as the temperature turns harsh in Siberia, Europe and China. The wetlands of Sangam, also known as the king of pilgrimages, are viewed as breeding grounds for these birds where they get a variety of food.
The Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj (Allahabad) is the confluence of three rivers — two physical rivers Ganga, Yamuna, and the subterranean mystic Saraswati River.
In Prayagraj, their presence from October to March is framed within the ecology of local beliefs. They also make their way to various areas including Sangam, Bheerpur and Sirsi.
