Kerala: Man Gets 107-Year Jail Term For Raping His Mentally Challenged Minor Daughter

    On Monday, a Pocso court at Pathanamthitta in Kerala sentenced a 45-year-old man to a rigorous jail term of 107 years for raping his mentally challenged daughter who was living with him.

    The 13-year-old girl lived with her father after the man’s wife separated from the family long ago.

    The incident occurred in 2020 and came to the fore only after the girl told her neighbours and teachers at her school about it. Following this, the cops launched an investigation into the matter.

    Further, a medical examination revealed that the girl was seriously injured and assaulted on several occasions by her father.

    The convict will undergo a total jail term of 67 years, as some punishments can be served simultaneously. The court also imposed a penalty of Rs 4 lakh on the convict.

    As per reports, Justice Jayakumar John pronounced the accused guilty and convicted him under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, as well as section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

    62 years jail term for impregnating teen

    On August 24, a Kerala fast-track court sentenced a 24-year-old man to a cumulative 62 years of imprisonment for raping and impregnating a girl in the Idukki district, PTI reported.

    Idukki Fast Track Court Judge T G Varghese sentenced the convict to 40 years imprisonment for impregnating a minor under the POCSO Act.

    Besides that, the court also sentenced him to 20 years for penetrative sexual assault of a minor and two years for sexual assault. It also imposed a fine of Rs 1.55 lakh on the convict.

    Teacher got 79 years imprisonment

    On August 4, The Thaliparamba fast-track Pocso court sentenced a teacher to 79 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting four minor girl students inside the classroom, TOI reported. At that time, the 50-year-old man, P E Govindan Namboodiri served as a mathematics teacher at an aided lower primary school in Kannur.

    The presiding judge C Mujeeb Rahman also slapped a fine of Rs 2.7 lakh on the convict. He was given seven years imprisonment under each section in the four separate cases in which he was found guilty.

    Also, he was found guilty under section 23 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Cops charged Namboothiri for repeated sexual assault of five students of Class 4 and 5 between June 2013 and Feb 2014.
