Stunning Pictures Show Fresh Snowfall Turns J&K’s Gulmarg Into Magical White Paradise

Much to the delight of tourists, the higher reaches of the popular ski-resort Gulmarg on Tuesday received fresh snowfall turning the town into a winter wonderland. Affarwat in Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received snowfall while the plains were lashed by rains.

Snowfall in hills, rainfall in plains

A meteorological department official said that the Affarwat hills in Gulmarg received 2 inches of snowfall in the evening while plains at several places were lashed by rains resulting in cold weather conditions.

He said that light to moderate rain and snowfall over high reaches at isolated places was expected and at scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir on October 19-20.

Weather in J&K

He, however, said that there’s no forecast of any major snowfall for the next one week to 10 days in J&K and Ladakh. The other upper reaches that received fresh snowfall include Sinthan Top, Mughal road, and Zojilla.

Weather was partly cloudy in the union territory during the last 24 hours. Srinagar recorded 7, Pahalgam 4.5, and Gulmarg 2.2 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

Roads closed due to snow

Meanwhile, the fresh snowfall also led to the closure of Mughal road, connecting Shopian with Poonch and Rajouri districts last evening. “We have closed the road for vehicular traffic due to slippery road conditions in view of the snowfall,” the official said, adding that it will be open only after improvement in the weather.

This picturesque town is located on the Pir Panjal Range, which is a part of the western Himalayas. It is a notified area committee in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is located at a distance of 31 km from Baramulla and 49 km from Srinagar.
