There is a saying often attributed to eminent scientist Albert Einstein which states that “I fear the day technology will surpass human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.”

Though there are records to prove that Einstein ever said this, there is no denial in the fact that technology has affected human intelligence and emotions.

This was yet again proven recently in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, where a man who was injured by robbers bled to death, while passersby were busy making videos of him.

Bleeding victim cries out for help

The incident happened on Sunday evening when Vinay Verma, a native of Gumchini village in Lakhimpur Kheri was returning home from his shop.

The 25-year-old who had around Rs 1 lakhs in his hand was attacked by unidentified robbers who also slit his throat before fleeing with the cash.

What followed was shocking and shameful.

An injured Verma, who was profusely bleeding cried for help from people passing by.

But no one bothered to come forward to help him, and many others were busy filming him.

Busy filming, asking who is the murderer

In several videos posted online, Verma can be seen lying in a pool of blood, crying for help.

In one video a bystander can be heard asking Verma who is gasping for breath to name his ‘killers’.

One onlooker can also be heard asking Verma to type the killer’s names on a mobile.

Verma finally got some ‘help’ from the police who arrived on the scene and took him to a hospital.

But it was too late and he succumbed to the injury.

He could have been saved: doctor

Doctors said that the man’s life could have been saved had he been brought to the hospital in time.

“The man was supposed to meet his friend when he was attacked by unidentified miscreants. We are finding out if there are any witnesses to the crime. The victim died before his statement could be recorded. We are questioning a few suspects,” Station House Officer (SHO) at Fardhan police station, Anil Saini, said.

Second such incident in UP

This was the second such incident reported from Uttar Pradesh in recent days.

On Tuesday another video had emerged from Kannauj, where a 12-year-old rape victim, who had also suffered serious injuries and was drenched in blood pleading for help from onlookers who were busy filming her.

The girl had multiple injuries, including on her head. In the video, the girl can be seen trying to reach out for help by raising her hand, but her appeals go unanswered. The video shows a group of men with their mobile phones in their hands, filming her from different angles.

The onlookers can be heard asking whether the police were informed. Another asked for the police chief’s number. But the filming continued with no attempts to help the girl.

The girl had to wait for help until the police arrived. A second video, which also went viral, showed the local police outpost in-charge rushing towards an autorickshaw with the injured girl in his arms.

On a complaint by the girl’s uncle, a case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code’s (IPC) sections 376 (rape) and 307 (attempt to murder), and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act.

“The police have identified the accused and attempts are on to arrest him,” Superintendent of Police, Kannauj, Kunwar Anupam Singh said on Wednesday.
